SARA D. GLEASON
DIRECTOR OF MUSIC

Mrs. Sara D. Gleason has been the Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church in Watertown since 2007. She directs the Chancel Choir and coordinates the weekly service music.

Sara was born and raised in Northern New York and attended the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. At Crane she studied Choral Conducting with Dr. Rebecca Reames and Dr. Daniel Gordon who gave her the opportunity to conduct the Crane Chorus, a 150 voice collegiate choir. She received a B.M. in Music Education with a concentration in Voice and an M.S. in Education with Distinction. 

After graduating from Crane, Sara began her teaching career at Copenhagen Central School where she taught K-12 Vocal Music, College level electives, and directed musicals for 10 years. Currently she teaches music and choir for the Watertown City School District . 

In 2007 and 2010 Sara conducted the Elementary Bi-County Chorus of Jefferson and Lewis Counties. She also presented on Technology in the Music Classroom at the 2010 New York State School Music Association Winter Conference, a statewide conference for Music Educators. She is serving a second term as President of the Jefferson Lewis County Music Teachers Association.

In 2009, Sara conducted the Northern Choral Society Children’s Choir. She has directed the Northern Choral Society since 2010.  While being blessed with all of these positions, she has had the pleasure of working with some of the North Country’s finest musicians. She resides near Watertown with her husband John, son William, twins Elsa and Ezra, and three “fur children”!
